In 1994, Sunderland of Scotland introduced Weatherbeater waterproof outerwear to the golf industry, which eventually led to the creation of a new category in golfwear: the windshirt. Over the next decade, a number of brands began producing their own version of these pullover garments that could be worn during chilly and/or rainy fall days on the course. They were often done with a crew or V-neck in basic solid colors – although you would see an occasional tartan plaid in the mix.

This light outerwear category has gone through a number of evolutions over the last 20 years, with most major brands offering a range of quarter- and half-zip layers in ever-improving performance fabrics –with each generation of products more fashionable and functional than the previous iteration.

The first-ever line from the Payne Stewart Collection offers its own take on light outerwear, with a range of layering pieces designed to prepare golfers for just about any weather condition. These include the following:

* The Victory Quarter Zip - This second layer garment has a sophisticated look that features well-placed stitching accents along the cuff and lower hem to give it a modern flair. Available in white, black and dusk, this piece is made of an ultra-soft and lightweight four-way stretch fabric that provides warmth without restriction.

* Championship Sunday Scissor Cut Wind Vest – Available in white, dusk and major blue, this water-repellent vest pays homage to the rain jacket Payne Stewart famously wore at Pinehurst and cut off the sleeves in 1999. It has been updated with subtle stitch detailing on front and back, deep-center quarter zip styling and elastic drawcord at the hem to customize the fit to any body type.

* PS Packable Wind Shirt – For fall days when the weather can change on a dime, this is a great garment to have in your golf bag. The water-resistant soft polyester shell makes the layer highly functional, while front pockets and stitching details give it a sleek, sophisticated look. As a bonus, the wind shirt – punched up a notch with the iconic fist pump logo – easily packs its own front zippered pocket for storage. Available in white, dusk and major blue.

For golfers who want to be ready for all the changing conditions of fall, the Payne Stewart Collection has you covered!
